Trust Ted Product Review: TPARTS Data Transmission Module

By Ted Marena

Everyone I know who owns a Tesla loves it. That doesn’t mean the vehicles are flawless or that the company is perfect. Occasionally, Tesla will modify the vehicles in production. Sometimes this is great, such as adding LED headlights or upgraded processors to drive the display. On other occasions, Tesla has removed features.

One example is in every 2022 Model Y and 2022 Model 3. The company did away with the data communication function of the center console USB. Those two USB ports only support charging now. If you want to play MP3 songs off a USB stick or plug in a game controller, you are out of luck. However, thanks to the Tesla accessory community, a company has come up with a solution. TPARTS is an aftermarket manufacturer that sells a data communication module to allow this removed function to work again. I recently reviewed it in this video. You will see all the details on how to install this for your Model 3 or Y.
